I was born and raised in a small town back in Honduras, but I moved to Washington almost 7 years ago. I started learning English in the ESL/ELA program at Edmonds College just weeks after I arrived here. After I finished ESL classes I started taking advanced English classes that allowed me to go to college. I’ve already completed my undergraduate degree in Edmonds, and my goal is to transfer to the University of Washington and major in International Studies. In 2019 I took a course at the Latino Education Training Institute (LETI), an organization that advocates for the Latin community. Here I became aware of the needs of immigrants in my community. Also, in 2020 I participated in training for public policy at Centro Latino now Mi Centro. These experiences helped me to understand better where I live, and they also helped me to develop social and leadership skills.
