Privacy Policy

House of Wisdom is a nonprofit serving students and families in Edmonds, Lake City and Everett, Washington. This page explains what information this website collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.

What we collect

When you request tutoring. The request form is meant to be filled in by a parent or guardian. It asks for:

  • The parent or guardian's name and email address, and a phone number if you choose to give one
  • The student's first name and grade
  • The subject, the times that suit you, your preferred language, and any note you add

When a volunteer tutor signs in. Tutors sign in with a Google account. We receive the name and email address on that account, and we store the profile details the tutor chooses to add.

To prevent spam. When a request is sent we store a scrambled form of the sender's internet address, which cannot be turned back into the address, and delete it after 2 days.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your information.
  • We do not show advertising or use advertising trackers.
  • We do not use analytics that follow you around the web.
  • We set a cookie only for tutors and staff who sign in, to keep them signed in.

How we use it

We use the details in a tutoring request only to arrange and deliver tutoring: to match the student with a volunteer tutor, to contact the parent or guardian, and to schedule sessions.

Who can see it

Tutoring requests can be seen by House of Wisdom staff and by approved volunteer tutors. A new account cannot see any request until a staff member has approved it.

Services we rely on

  • Hostinger hosts this website, its database and our email.
  • Google provides sign-in for tutors and the video meetings used for online sessions.
  • Discord alerts our team that a new request has arrived. These alerts carry the subject and grade only, never a name, email address or phone number.
  • Google Forms collects sign-ups for our in-person programs, and Zeffy processes donations. When you use those, their own privacy policies apply.
  • Some pages show Google Fonts, Google Maps and YouTube videos. Loading them shares your internet address with Google, as with any website that uses them.

How long we keep it

We keep a tutoring request while tutoring is being arranged and delivered, and afterwards as part of our program records. Our internal activity log is cleared after 180 days.

Your choices

You can ask us at any time to show you, correct or delete the information we hold about you or your child. Email info@thehouseofwisdomwa.org and we will act on it.

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
