The House of Wisdom Food Security & Nutrition Program addresses food insecurity among immigrant and refugee families by providing free, culturally appropriate, and nutritious food. Rooted in dignity and cultural understanding, the program ensures that families not only have access to food — but food that aligns with their dietary, religious, and cultural needs.
Program Background
During the 2021 global crises, including the Afghan and Ukrainian refugee influx, many newly arrived families in Washington State faced severe food insecurity.
While food distribution efforts increased, there was a critical gap in halal and culturally appropriate food options. Many families were receiving food they could not consume due to religious or cultural restrictions, leaving them underserved despite available resources.
The House of Wisdom stepped in to address this gap.
